I've been asked on more than one occasion to comment on, "why are Black people in America so angry with Steve Harvey for taking a meeting with Donald Trump?" I will start by saying this, I'm not the spokeswoman for African Americans, however, I will speak to why I have an issue with it. Let's say you're having a massive heart attack, would you seek treatment from a dental hygienist? No you wouldn't. You'd want the top cardiologist to work on you.
And it's not so much that I'm angry - more so a bit confused. But with that being said, I'm not shocked that a reality show celebrity, turned president, would seek guidance from a comedian, on how to solve the troubling urban housing situation and other critical inner city problems.
My confusion comes from, Donald Trump himself, selecting to bypass some of congresses most qualified and respected representatives, past and present, such as: John Lewis, Maxine Waters, Charles Rangel; John Conyers, Carol Moseley Braun
and Andrew Young, just to name a few.
Furthermore, it speaks volumes once again, to the lack of importance and attention given to the mounting problems plaguing the black community.
I believe, when Steve Harvey received the call from Trump, he may have been so enamoured by the Apprentice boss, that he dropped everything to meet with him, but the moment he realised that the meeting was of such grave importance, and not an invitation to be a candidate on the Apprentice, Steve Harvey should have stopped talks immediately.
In conclusion, America has a lot of healing to do, and it's not going to be overnight. And selecting the wrong people for the wrong reasons, placing them in roles they have absolutely no knowledge in will not benefit anyone, it will only prolong the healing process.
